I actively go out of my way to avoid this King Soopers specifically. I have, on occasion run into issues with 'person in your party lacks ID' problems from King Soopers. Part of the problem is the store's policy. If I go to buy certain age restricted items, according to multiple employees at various locations, they cannot sell it to me without everyone I'm at the store with displaying their valid ID to be able to purchase the product also. Even that is selective. If I am, for example, purchasing beer... even 3/2 beer at a non-liquor store King Soopers, they require anyone I'm attending with to show a valid 21+ license. If I am purchasing Ibuprofen for a headache (another age restricted item) I show mine and it's all good regardless of who I'm with. Similarly, if I am with my 20 year old brother and I try to purchase the same beer, they can't sell it to me. However, if I am picking up beer as part of the groceries for the family I nanny for with their 1 year old, this is not at all a problem. No one asks to "ID" the one year old child or refuses to sell to me. This raises some obvious questions like... where is the line in the sand? Why can my brother join me in the liquor store while I purchase beer but not at the grocery store? What constitutes an age restricted item that I can buy in a minor's company as opposed to others? I have asked and received no answers on any occasion. The real problem with THIS King Soopers however is the way in which the situation was handled. There is some magical policy here which no one fully understands and you could lose your job etc. fine. I get it. There are silly and arbitrary policies where I work too that I do or don't fully agree with that I have to uphold...
I walked in with my girlfriend to knock out some of the weekly grocery shopping on my lunch break. I picked out all of my favorite foods, a kitchen utensil or two that we lacked, some dish soap, and upon passing the liquor store section of this particular store I grabbed an assortment of beer. Forgetting King Soopers vague and selective policy while shopping with my 20 year old girlfriend, I placed it under my cart. We went to check out. At the self check out station I rang up all of my goodies. As I got to the end I grabbed the assortment from under my cart and rang it up which was answered with instructions to show my ID to the attendant. I already had my wallet out ready to pay so I removed my drivers license and handed it to the woman who was, to my surprise, already standing behind me. She laughed to herself as she took it from my hands and said "You already know I'm going to need to see hers too" referring to my girlfriend standing beside me. No. I did not know. I did not know this woman, and I had forgotten about the policy since I quit smoking nearly 2 years ago and had almost never purchased beer from the grocery store since I normally just go to the actual liquor store. Confused, she procured her ID as well and the attendant replied "That's what I thought. No. Go put it back."
She still had both of our drivers license now and was pointing at the box of beers before she turned her back on us and walked away.
I followed and said I'd be needing our licenses back. Thankfully she complied.
"You can keep all of it then. I won't be talked down to," I fumed.
"Then you need to go put back everything you took," she snapped.

I understand that there are more than likely those who attempt to pull the wool over her eyes every single day and try to trick employees to sell booze to those accompanying minors. I do. I understand where that attitude was coming from, but it absolutely DOES NOT make it acceptable to speak to any customer in that manner. I am a manager at a local business down the street so I understand being frustrated with customers who try to trick you but if I EVER caught an employee of mine speaking to a customer that way they would be gone in a heartbeat.

Needless to say I did not put my items back as I flipped her off and stormed out. Your employees need customer service training BAD.
